SoPPS Honours 28 Students at 6th Prof. David Darko Obiri Dean’s Award Ceremony
The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SoPPS) has honoured twenty-eight (28) outstanding students at the 6th Prof. David Darko Obiri Dean’s Award Ceremony for the 2024/2025 Academic Year.
The event, held under the theme “Excellence with Impact: Turning Academic Brilliance into Leadership, Innovation, and Service,” brought together students, faculty, and invited guests to celebrate exceptional academic performance and personal growth within the School.
The Dean’s Award Ceremony, held annually, recognises students who have distinguished themselves academically across all levels. The awards comprised cash prizes, plaques, and certificates, presented under various categories including Best-Performing Male Student, Best-Performing Female Student, Overall Best Student, Second and Third Best Students in Class, and Most Improved Student.
Address by the Dean
In his address, the Dean of the School, Prof. Ernest Obese, commended the awardees for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence. He emphasised that academic success is built on discipline and consistency, and urged students to continue striving for higher standards. He further encouraged those who were not recognised this year to remain focused, expressing optimism that future ceremonies would celebrate their achievements.
Keynote Address
Delivering the keynote address, the immediate past Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Rosemond Boohene, congratulated the award recipients and highlighted the crucial role pharmacy plays in delivering quality healthcare. She advised the student-pharmacists to uphold professional and ethical standards, noting that their competence and integrity would directly impact patient safety and national health outcomes.
Remarks from Awardees
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Mr. George Dutu Jnr, Overall Best Student for Level 300, expressed appreciation to the Dean and School Management for fostering a supportive academic environment. He also acknowledged lecturers and peers for their encouragement and collaboration.
Mr. Owuraku Antwi Koranteng, Most Improved Student for Level 400, encouraged colleagues to use their time on campus wisely, remain consistent in their studies, and pursue continuous self-improvement.
