The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SoPPS) has held a three-day staff retreat from October 13 to 15, 2025, at the Nyansapon Eco Resort, Moree, in the Abura/Asebu/Kwamankese District of the Central Region.

The retreat was organized to review the School’s performance during the previous academic year and to develop new strategies for growth and innovation. Participants also discussed the School’s proposed five-year Action Plan, aimed at strengthening academic delivery, research, and institutional development.

A key objective of the retreat was to identify specific challenges facing departments within the School and to outline practical solutions to address them in the upcoming academic year. Staff members also deliberated on a draft curriculum for the forthcoming Pharmacy Graduate Entry Programme (GEP). The retreat further featured discussions on the integration of technological tools such as an electronic attendance system to enhance efficiency in academic administration.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Aheto, commended the School for its initiative and reiterated the University’s commitment to promoting grantsmanship as a key criterion for academic promotion. “I will be one person who will champion grantsmanship as a key promotion criterion in the University,” he emphasized. Prof. Aheto encouraged the staff to sustain the gains made by the University and to align their departmental plans with the broader interests of students.

The Dean of the School, Prof. Ernest Obese, expressed appreciation to staff for their hard work and dedication throughout the past academic year. He urged them to take an active role in the development and implementation of the five-year Action Plan to consolidate the School’s achievements. Prof. Obese also called for stronger collaboration among staff towards achieving a shared vision of innovation and excellence in line with the UCC Corporate Strategic Plan.

Resource persons for the retreat were drawn from the Centre for Teaching Support and the Counselling Centre of the University of Cape Coast. The invited facilitators included Prof. (Mrs.) Linda Dzama Forde, Dr. Eugene Kwarteng-Nantwi (Director, Counselling Centre, UCC), and Prof. Forster Danso Ntow (Director, Centre for Teaching Support).
