SoPPS Holds 2025 Orientation Programme for First-Year Students

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SoPPS), University of Cape Coast, has organized a one-day orientation program for its newly admitted students.

The event aimed to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the UCC PharmD program, covering essential topics such as registration and examination procedures, academic life, campus relationships, professional conduct, effective study techniques, and personal development.

Opening the orientation session, the Dean, Prof. Elvis Ofori Ameyaw, highlighted the competitive nature of the admission process, emphasizing that the School received a large number of applications. He explained that the entrance examinations and interview process were used to select the most deserving candidates for the program.

He urged the students to prioritize their studies and develop their full potential to become responsible pharmacists who will contribute to national development. He further encouraged them to read extensively to expand their knowledge and excel in their academic pursuits.

Upholding Excellence and Integrity

Prof. Elvis Ofori Ameyaw also cautioned against examination malpractice, urging students to uphold excellence, integrity, and hard work throughout their academic journey.

"Your admission is a testament to your efforts and merit. Congratulations! You are here to be guided, challenged, and shaped for the future," he remarked.

Encouragement for Academic and Professional Growth

The Director of the Directorate of Human Resource, UCC, Mr. Isaac Adom Konadu, also addressed the students, congratulating them on their admission and encouraging them to remain dedicated to their education. He emphasized that the future of the country depends on the next generation of pharmacists, urging students to avoid irresponsible behavior and remain focused on achieving academic excellence.

He further advised them to seize opportunities within the university and beyond, demonstrating respect and professionalism in their interactions with lecturers and peers.

Mr. Konadu also encouraged students to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship, highlighting the importance of using their knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact on society.
