SCHOOL OF PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES ENGAGES KEY INDUSTRY PARTNERS TO STRENGTHEN COLLABORATION
On March 16, 2026, the Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof. Ernest Obese, led a strategic engagement with key institutions, including the National Vaccine Institute, German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), Centre for Plant Medicine Research (CPMR), Forestry Commission of Ghana, and Atlantic Life Sciences, to explore opportunities for collaboration.
The engagement focused on strengthening industry–academia linkages to support experiential learning, industrial attachments for students, and joint research initiatives. Particular emphasis was placed on advancing vaccinology and supporting the rollout of new postgraduate programmes in Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Vaccinology at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SoPPS), University of Cape Coast. Additionally, the meeting focused on establishing a snake farm (serpentarium) where snake venom will be extracted to produce local antivenom, aiming to reduce the fatal outcomes of snake bites caused by limited access to life-saving antivenoms.
Representing the partner institutions were Dr. Faisal Nuhu, Deputy Director of the National Vaccine Institute; Mr. Dhananjay Tripathi, Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic Life Sciences; Mr. Enoch Ashie, Acting Head of the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission of Ghana; and Mr. David Acheampong, Technical Advisor at GIZ. The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences team included Prof. Elvis, Ofori Ameyaw, Prof. Robert Peter Biney, Prof. Mawuli K Gyakobo, Dr. Emmanuel Tweneboah, Mrs. Esther Bema Nimo and Ms. Effie Lens-Squire.
The engagement marks a significant step toward building strong partnerships that will enhance training, research, and innovation in pharmaceutical sciences. The group later paid a courtesy call to the Acting Vice Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Denis W. Aheto and the university’s Registrar Mr. Gideon Abbeyquaye Esq., where an MOU was signed between UCC and Atlantic Lifesciences Limited.
