The University of Cape Coast’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has celebrated a remarkable achievement as a cohort of its distinguished researchers received top honours at the University’s 10th Research Awards and Grants (RAG) Ceremony and the 2nd Research and Innovation Week, held on 11th and 12th November 2025 at the School of Graduate Studies Auditorium organised by the University of Cape Coast (UCC), through the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Consultancy (DRIC)

The ceremony aimed to intensify research engagement as a core mandate, enhance the quality of research output, publicise the university’s research focus and findings, and share recommendations with industry players, policy makers, and other users and beneficiaries of research outcomes. The annual event recognises excellence in scientific inquiry, innovation, and impactful scholarship across the University.

This year, the School of Pharmacy emerged prominently, with several faculty members earning major institutional awards and research grants for their outstanding contributions to science and to the University of Cape Coast's sterling performance in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR).

Among the awardees was Professor Robert Peter Biney, who received the Group-led Research Support Grant for 2025, acknowledging his leadership in collaborative scientific research.

Also honoured was Dr Isaac Tabiri Henneh, who achieved dual recognition winning the Best Researcher Award for the College of Allied Health Sciences for 2025 and securing the Policy and Practice-Oriented Research Support Grant for 2025, reflecting his commitment to research that informs national policy and practice.

The Group-led Research Support Grant for 2025 was further awarded to an exceptional team of scholars from the School of Pharmacy, UCC, including:

  • Dr Jonathan Asante

  • Pharm. Akosua D. Ankomah

  • Dr Barbara Adu-Brimpong

  • Dr Richard Delali Djochie

  • Dr Ivan Eduku Mozu

  • Dr Reinhard Isaac Nketiah

University officials praised the awardees for their commitment to advancing pharmaceutical science, strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, and contributing cutting-edge research with real-world impact.

Dr Esther Eshun Oppong, the Head of Department for Department of Pharmaceutics and a researcher at the School of Pharmacy, University of Cape Coast (UCC), has been awarded a prestigious research grant by PharmaVax Ghana programme, (a joint initiative by the European Union and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ). The grant recognises her innovative approach, skills, research and commitment to advancing pharmaceutical science.

The ceremony reinforced the School of Pharmacy’s growing reputation as a leading centre for research excellence in Ghana and the West African region. Officials expressed confidence that the achievements of these scholars will continue to inspire innovation and contribute meaningfully to national development.
