SoPPS STAFF EMERGE AS THE BEST IN BIOINFORMATICS AND NEUROSCIENCES
The International Brain Research Organization (Africa Regional Committee) school held in Morocco from the 9th to 14th of November 2021 sought to train emerging African Neuroscientists in Bio-informatics and particularly in Neuro-informatics. The workshop involved both academic and social activities. The facilitators consisted of Moroccan and French nationals whilst the participants included Nigerians, Cameroonians, Ghanaians, and Moroccans.
The workshop aimed at introducing participants to tools in the bioinformatics field. Tools like Virtual Brain (TVDD), TVB on E-BRAINS Ecosystem. The participants were introduced to online databases of protein sequences and hands-on practice. Also, the faculty presented on how next generational sequencing is accelerating neurogenetics research in diseases such as psychiatric disorders, Parkinson's diseases, and brain infections. Introduction to molecular docking and dynamics software was not left out.
On the last day, participants were required to present their current research project and relate it to the knowledge acquired at the workshop. Among the renowned attendees, the faculty selected Mr Silas Acheampong Osei, a Laboratory Technologist at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Cape Coast Ghana as the best presenter and was awarded a certificate of excellence in scientific/professional communication.
