The School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (SoPPS) is a newly established school and one of four (4) Schools in the College of Health and Allied Sciences (CoHAS).The School was established in August 2018 to train students to obtain Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) in order to expand the healthare delivery team of professionals. It is an undergraduate professional (first degree) programme. The school has admitted its third batch of students into the PharmD programme. The school has five (5) Departments: Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy & Herbal Medicine, Pharmacotherapeutics & Pharmacy Practice. The School has a total of thirty-six (36) staff comprising eighteen (17) academic staff and nineteen (19) non-academic staff. The School is strategically positioned in the University of Cape Coast for the academic and professional development of not only professional pharmacist, but the capacity building of future generations of academics and scholars in the field of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Dean's Award ceremony took place on Friday, February 23rd, 2024, at the School of Medical Science (SMS) Auditorium, UCC. This event was organized to recognize and commend the top-performing pharmacy students and to inspire them to strive for excellence in future endeavors. Named in honor of the late Professor David Darko Obiri, the first Dean of the School of Pharmacy at UCC, the ceremony commemorated his legacy of dedication and commitment. May his soul continue to rest in peace.
The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science (SoPPS) at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, coordinated the training session held at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) conference room on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Professor Jon Wietholter, a Fullbright Specialist, clinical professor from West Virginia School of Pharmacy (WVU), as well as an internal medicine clinical pharmacist from WVU-Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital, served as the facilitator for the event.
Prioritizing the welcoming of new students, the School of Pharmacy successfully hosted an orientation program on January 22, 2024, at the CODE conference room, welcoming newly enrolled pharmacy students.
The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences organised an Orientation Programme for National Service Personnel posted to the School on Monday, 13th November, 2023. Speaking at the programme, the Dean of the School, Prof Elvis Ofori Ameyaw stated that the programme was organised to ensure that the Personnel gain a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities during the service period thereby contributing to a sense of purpose and direction.
On the 14th of June 2023, the Pharmacy Council Ghana paid a visit to the School of Pharmacy at the University of Cape Coast for re-accreditation. The meeting was held at SoPPS conference room. The team consist of the following dignitaries;
